When Eternity Smiles Back
K. Radhakumar *
We went to the local cinema
To see a film.
It got a good review in the press.
So I asked my friends,
'Why don't we go
And see it together.'
We went and saw it.
It was a good film.
It told the story of a man
During a period of loneliness in his life,
The void left by the death of his wife
Was not filled; I identified with him.
He had a good sense of the absurd.
And the film described
The man's spiritual journey
From a deep sense of despair
To health and happiness.
We had a nice time
And went for a drink.
We sat and talked for quite sometime
Since the place was not crowded
And returned home in my father's car.
I was the driver
And had to drop my friends.
First, it was Tom.
We said good night.
Next came the turn of Dick.
Good night.
Last I dropped Harry.
Up to now is the story of the driver
The story as told by him.
So far, so good.
Beyond this, the story is not clear.
One never knows who dropped him home.
Leaves do fall in autumn
And what is wrong if these fall in spring?
Two days later
There is an obituary of our dear driver
Who was killed in an absurd car accident
