War between intensity and consistency
Birkarnelzelzit Thiyam *
Life does confuse us with intensity and consistency at times. Burning midnight candles during the final exams does make us think intensity will bring us the golden eggs. This simple psychology comes out of our own comfort making us fail in the trap of procrastination and push us to be a child of no routine.
Because of us growing towards believing intensity over consistency for our own comfort, it mostly does nothing but eats up our confidence and self-esteem.
So, we get stuck in situations where we are seeking approval of someone for our self-esteem. We start believing that we are meant to be led by someone or to follow someone. Then after, you will find yourself looking in broken mirrors to get the best reflection of yourself, you will start even adjusting yourself with the broken mirror without even realising that the mirror is broken.
When you are a devotee of intensity, you will start ignoring mistakes because of the time constraints. But only if you can work for consistency, you will open your receptors wide to see on others mistakes not to only learn and avoid when it comes to you but to get yourself some tips on how to deal with it. Mistakes are the wheels of growth. You will definitely face it if you long to move in life.
Most of the best football players in the world are not on top because of their talents and abilities but only because of their 4:00 AMs, because of 2 a day and 5 a day. I know it’s hard to fight the urge to quit, I am going through it right now as well.
All winners have gone through this, all kings have gone through this, all lions have gone through this, all heroes have gone through this. Please don’t quit. Let’s stop working for 9 hours, instead 20 minutes everyday for 9 years.
Let’s keep all these aside, why do you even wake up everyday? What is that one thing that keeps you awake at night or that one thing which pulls you out of the bed every morning? Don’t tell me you have nothing by looking at a broken mirror.
Listen to me, success is not the six pack at your belly that you build but the willingness to sweat 3 hours everyday with no complaints. Success is not about having the best retirement plan. It’s that strong but small willingness to go for an extra hour, wake up at 4:00 am everyday, train 30 minutes more than the team. It will all come down to your diary when you accept consistency in your life.
Funny but true, most of the traffic jams happen because of all the rush in the last hour. The day you throw this word intensity out of your system, routine will take over the place of procrastination. Too much positivity over believing that you have plenty of time by hiding the sole truth of watering your inner comfort i.e. laziness. Life is made with moments, routines, rules, practices and mistakes.
Only by a devotee of consistency will they be able to balance good days and bad days. I know you have times, days, weeks or years in your life where nothing seems to go right, where you badly want to give up on your dreams.
At times like this, the devotee of consistency will understand the phenomenon of ups and downs, making himself believe that no bad times stand the test of time and that they shall pass.
They will have the will and strength to go through the worst times because they have evolved into people of strong character. They will also not celebrate winnings for too long, for they know that too shall pass.
