Under pressure, Centre may fast-track hydel projects

Despite continuous protests against big dams in the Northeast, the Centre has once again hastened its efforts to explore the feasibility of giving shape to a few controversial hydoelectric projects in the region.
A copy of the ministry’s agenda for the meeting, which is available with Seven Sisters Post, clearly shows that the controversial Loktak Downstream hydroelectric project in Tamenglong district of Manipur is also expected to be re-considered for environment clearance.
