The Sentinel | Imphal Nov 12
Expressing distrust with the electronic voting machines (EVM), suspicious tribal voters at Senvon, a tribal village in the Tipaimukh Assembly constituency said they will boycott the next elections if EVMs are imposed on them. They pointed out that in advanced countries like US, UK and other western countries, the governments still use ballot papers.
The villagers questioned the logic behind use of EVMs and said that many do not know how to use the machine. During the January 2012 Assembly elections in Manipur, the infuriated and suspicious tribal voters at Senvon, a tribal village in the Tipaimukh Assembly constituency had torched one EVM. They feared that some officials in collusion with the ruling Congress party had manipulated it in favour of the Congress candidate.
