Transgenders refute 'indecent dress' charge
Seven Sisters Post | Yumnam Rupachandra | Imphal (Oct 28):
Transgender people, known as Nupi Sabi (pretending to be women) in Manipur, on Sunday refuted charges by women groups that they have been promoting indecent dresses among the girls through beauty pageants and sought withdrawal of a “ban” on a “Miss Manipur” contest.
“We also want to do normal works like the whitecollared jobs but we are discriminated against for our nature,” Shanta said adding, “We even face problems in going to hospital when we are sick.” “It is amidst these discriminations that the transgender people have managed to eke out a living with a limited profession,” he added. “Only the trangenders themselves and a few people understand our problems,” he lamented.
