A One-day Joint Interaction Programme on “ Tobacco Free Institutions & TB Programme awareness”” was held today at URC hall, ZEO office, khoyathong Pukhri Achouba Mapal, Imphal on 16 January 2015.
Speaking at the Interaction Programme as a resource person, Liaison Officer – Tobacco Control – Manipur, VHAA – Premjit Thokchom said that it is high time to thoroughly discuss the issue of Harmful effects of Tobacco Uses among children and adults in Manipur.
Stating that COPTA ( Tobacco control Rules ) 2003 is a matter of concern in our state.
Section 4 “ No Smoking Area – Smoking Here is an offence ” making all Public Places (like workplace, shopping malls, airport, bus and train stations, hotels, cinema halls, shops and restaurant) in Manipur should be Smoke Free.
Saying that instruct the notice and to ensure compliance of Section 6 to all schools –District (ZEO / Inspector / DI / Headmaster / Principal).
Section 6 (a) : Prohibition on sale of tobacco products to and by persons below the age of 18 years.
Section 6 (b) : Prohibition on Sale of Cigarette and other Tobacco products around Educational Institutions.
He further presents the few signage of Section 6 (b) to selected headmaster approved by ZEO.
Further SNO, Dr. Memcha ( District T.B. Department ) , IEC officer and T.B. Officer give the speech of full awareness of TB with slideshow to all the Headmasters of 103 schools.
ZEO, Imphal west District, Zone-I and other DI also spoke at the today one-day Joint Interaction Programme.
