Third term in office and waiting to see : Cong on a roll
- Sangai Express Editorial :: April 29, 2013 -
The uncertainty lies in its certainty. Uncertain when the next president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee is to be elected.
Certain that there would not be much of an internal rambling. Uncertain too when the next election would be held .
This is a far cry from the days when the Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) held sway under the stewardship Messr W Nipamacha (Now late), Dr L Chandramani and Thounaojam Chaoba.
Stability, it seems, has become the magic word.
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has done itself good so far. Since 2002, the State unit of the oldest political party in the country has conducted itself exemplary.
Power can be enticing. It be intoxicating. It can be empowering. The Congress party in Manipur has done itself well.
For the first time in the political history of the State, Manipur has seen a Chief Minister complete a full term, a second term and by all accounts will complete the third term.
An example of an absent Opposition or a matter of quality leadership ?
The Congress as a party has done well. Better than any party. Now the important question is whether this has been translated into governance or not.
Ten years, running into the 15th year and what has it got to show for itself ? A question worth questioning. The Imphal-Jiri line is yet to be completed.
The people continue to live at the mercy of economic/highway blockades. If it rains it is slushy. If it does not rain it is dusty. Power supply continues to be dismal.
Water has to be bought by the tankers, that is for those who are fortunate to have tanks built or have the money to arrange otherwise.
The Congress party is doing great. But how about the people ? Has this question ever registered in the minds of the Congress leaders ?
Stability has just not translated into governance. This is the moot point.
And this is the voice of the people. Are the leaders of the party of Tilak, Gandhi, Nehru and others ready to listen ?
A question of the party and the Government working in tandem ?
