The Mute Spectators
Rajkumari Sunita *
If only the mountains can talk,
If only the rivers can moan,
If only the trees can speak,
If only the lilies can cry.
Lo behold! Manipur
Nature has gifted you with many bounties,
The rivers, the mountains,
The valleys and the lakes,
They stood still, witness to history,
A bounty harvest the land was.
They are a mute spectator now
To what this land has become.
Every day man trying to move mountain,
Every minute man trying to change rivers' course.
Every second trees cut down, the lilies burnt.
When will we come to our senses?
When will we hear the wake up call?
With a mere spark vast and vast forest burnt,
To catch a single fish the whole lake poisoned.
Its not far the wrath of nature will show,
Its not far the rivers will disagree to flow.
Hey foolish human, ponder a second
And reflect to what our Mahatma had said
"Nature has enough to support humans need,
But not human's greed".
