The Modern Housewife
Chongtham Ongbi Subadani Devi *
Hush! The craggy hill
The sister godmother
Baby brother in her back
Struggling for existence.
The children without childhood
The pity for all
The mother without motherhood
Bearing three surnames
Has owned the fourth one
Stranded her child in lap
Children of three families
By the sister godmother
With a baby in her back
Up, up the craggy hill
Struggling for existence.
The modern housewife
Heartless a creature is
Leading a selfish life
Not to think a moment
For the children stranded.
Many a people fickle minded
Is in lead every where
Many a people delinquent
Become the future pillars.
