Review:
Life is a complex journey, accompanied by joys, sorrows, and lessons. All of us have encountered numerous instances that have taught us valuable lessons. These lessons include how to navigate tough times or understand the value of the small things in life.
Ahanjao is a village man who embarks on an adventure to Imphal, the capital city of Manipur to perform Nat- Sankirtana. It seemed like he was stuck in a never-ending cycle of unfortunate incidents that befell him. These experiences have shaped his outlook on life and enabled him to become more compassionate and understanding of others.
Taibang Keithel is a comedy Manipuri film written and directed by Satyajit BK, one of the most vibrant filmmakers from Manipur. The movie has been applauded for its light-hearted humour and captivating storyline, making it one of the most successful films in Manipur.
Humour and satire have been used to convey the director's vision of what Manipur might look like in the future by presenting a thought-provoking outlook on the youth's future.
Ahanjao is a naïve man, and he longed to stay in Imphal and perform. His dream came true when he got a room in the locality of Taibang Keithel. The movie revolves around the loss of two bicycles during his time in Imphal.
The unemployed youth of the locality who thrived to take advantage of the humbleness of Ahanjao, grabbed the opportunity when he lost a bicycle that he borrowed. It was like a pack of vultures swooping in on a weakened animal. When they saw that Ahanjao was vulnerable, they pounced, taking any advantage they could.
He was told by one of the localities to give him some amount if he wanted the bicycle. He complied with the demand, and soon found himself in the centre of a web of similar requests. Following these experiences, Ahanjao became a better man; he turned back and returned to his village. That conveyed the impression that he was a weak man who had given up.
The director feared that the working environment around Imphal would be replaced by non- locals and locals without a place to work would opt to live with uncertainty. With the development, the living standards of local people are deteriorating.
The locals were desperate for jobs because there was nowhere to work. This shows a condition where they appear to be in control, but in reality, they are subordinates; illustrating changes in social behaviour and mindset amongst the people.
The dialogue and characters were delivered effectively, keeping viewers engaged and entertained. In addition, Taibang Keithel is a distinctive, humorous film, a game changer in the Manipur Film Industry. Its unique plot and relatable characters make the movie a must-watch for people of all ages.
