Super Market at Nupi Keithel |

The women in the Ima Market have decided to oppose tooth and nail the Government plan to construct super market at the area occupied by women vendors. Earlier in the past too the Government could not go ahead with its plan to construct multi-storied buildings at the areas for the simple reason that the design of the market structure was unacceptable. It is really good that the plan was abandoned without seeing any light. If that controversial building was constructed, the building by now might have become obsolete and the Government might be thinking of constructing a new building now causing extra expenditure from the State exchequer. The town planer in the state does not have clear vision of what the town should look like. Instead of planning construction at the controversial areas it should have though of making similar construction at other places where such construction could be accepted. After all, why business activities should be centralized at the Khwairamband bazar areas only? This is one market, which is better for moon-eyed men only where there is no place for the poor men. Nobody with little money can think of starting a business at this place. These business sharks are out to swallow the small time businessmen. Decentralization of market complex will create more working place for the educated unemployed youths in the state. Can anybody with a few thousand rupees ever dream of getting a plot for carrying out business activities at this market? Instead of paying too much emphasis at this are the Government should think of developing the markets at the outskirt areas, where there are enough space for such construction. For instance, Khurai Lamlong will have enough space for erection of multi storied super market. The same can be done at Kwakeithel areas and Singjamei too. Khwai market has become no man’s land now. Traffic jam has happened daily regularly. The traffic jams one in the morning around 10 and another around 4.30 are daily happening. By adding multi storied building in the already trouble area the number of influx to the market will increase manifold. Therefore, the Government should not think of going ahead with its construction programme at the Khwai market area. We have seen large number of multi storied buildings coming up at Khwai market areas. But the owners of these buildings do not feel at all the need for earmarking some space for parking the vehicles brought by those who come to their shops for buying goods and putting up at the hotels. It is felt the concerned authority should enact laws to deal with the landowners, who do not think of reserving some space for parking. The concerned authority have regulated traffic flow to the market by introducing one way system but it is of little help because the roads are too narrow. The construction of the two storied buildings at the BT road has added problems to the traffic. It is time the concerned authority learns from the mistake it had already committed. No attempt should be made to repeat the mistake.
