The news from Oct 30, 2022 : Stories of achievements
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: November 01, 2022 -
Difficult to say how many would have noted the difference but it was a sort of a big pleasure to prepare the October 30, 2022 news reports which greeted the readers, subscribers and well wishers of The Sangai Express on the morning of October 31, 2022.
Rare it is for any Imphal based newspaper to carry good tidings and rarer it is to carry three major such news, all packed on page 1 and this is exactly what TSE did.
24 hours later and it is with a sense of optimism that The Sangai Express takes this opportunity to remind the readers that the October 31 issue, with the news reports datelined October 30 had three major news, which all talked about human endeavour coming out triumphs.
If young man Lukanand Kshetrimayum etched the name of Manipur on the map of glamour and something more in bagging the first runner up spot at the 14th Mister International contest held at faraway Philippines, then hard working Thanpam Kasomhung, a 22 year old young Tangkhul youth from Ukhrul district demonstrated how grit, determination, coupled with a dose of merit can put one at the top of the world by landing a job with Singapore based business enterprise Tolaram Group with a whooping pay package of Rs 67 lakh per annum.
If this is about the achievements of two young individuals, each making a mark for themselves and their families in their chosen field, then the Government did not lag behind in introducing a direct flight from Imphal to Aizawl and vice versa five times a week.
For those who grew up in the days of Fokker and earlier the Dakota, this is something which would have been unthinkable, but today this is a reality and one hopes the newly introduced flight is able to deliver the expected service to the people.
Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory is another group which added to the stories of hard, sincere work paying off with its play Cheitheng making the cut for the 37th International Pantomime Theatre Festival scheduled to be held at Germany from November 2 to 6.
All achievements, underlining the talents and work culture of the people and it is this strength which should be capitalised upon by the youngsters.
One just hopes that The Sangai Express and the people of Manipur will get to witness or read more stories of such merits and achievements in the coming days.
All indications that despite the disturbances and the not so healthy environment, there will be stories of achievements and merits and one hopes that such stories do not become the exceptions but the norm in the coming years.
It was also heartening to see the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Manipur adopting a rather mature stand and not adopting any offensive stance while addressing the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur and some organisations which have opposed the ST tag demand for the Meeteis/Meiteis.
No words of bravado and instead a humble appeal to all standing against the ST demand for Meeteis/Meiteis to withdraw their objections and instead come to the realisation that the ST pursuit does not go against the interest of any community.
Encouraging to see that the STDCM did not go for the jugular or indulge in lung power, but instead appealed to the instinct of mankind to understand the situation of the Meeteis/Meiteis.
One only hopes that the matured stand of the STDCM is taken note of by the anti-ST tag demand for the Meeteis/Meiteis and see where and how a common meeting ground may be worked out.
There is a reason why The Sangai Express has thought it fit to look back at the day just gone by and take comfort in the news that made it prominently for public consumption.
For ages, nay decades, the people of Manipur, particularly the youngsters have been fed on news and developments which all go against the understanding of humanity and the goodness of mankind and it was with a sense of delight that the news of progress and achievements were carried so prominently on page of 1 of this newspaper.
Let not this be just a one day instance, but become somewhat of a trend.
