Solar power plant lights up PHC, Mayang Imphal

With the installation of a 5 KW solar power plant under the initiative of Manipur’s works Minister Dr. Kh. Ratankumar who is also the MLA of Mayang Imphal AC , Primary health centre, Mayang Imphal now no longer faces shortage of power like before. This solar power plant has been installed by Shiv Shankar Solar System, Opp. Heecham Yaicham Pat, Moirangkhom.

Even as it might be a bit astonishment to the people of other states enjoying regular power supply, People of Manipur hardly get power for 6 hours out of 24 hours a day. When electric transformer installed at a locality gets defunct, locals repair it with their own contribution as concerned department keeps silent and fails to work in public interest. Amidst circumstances, Most Primary health centres in the state are working without good power supply.

The Solar power plant which would benefit the PHC was today inaugurated by Dr. S. Bimolakumari Devi, CMO, Imphal west who is also the Mission Director of NRHM as chief guest while Dr. N. Ibochouba Singh, MO in-charge of Mayang Imphal PHC and Khumukcham Ongbi Ibemcha Devi, General secretary of Manipur state Mahila congress committee attended the function as president and guest of honours respectively.

“Medical staffs working here day and night used to face lots of inconveniences when electric power, which is utmost important for hospitals serving for sick people, went off. We used generators for power back up during power load shedding. There is no dedicated power line facility so far. The installation of a 5KW solar power plant is a boon to the patients as well as the medical staffs. We thank the works Minister for his dedicated initiative to facilitate the health centre with regular solar power supply”, said Dr. Ibochouba, MO in charge of Mayang Imphal PHC.

The five bedded PHC, used to be thronged with many patients from the entire Mayang Imphal, and manned by six Doctors including one Ayush Doctor and nine Nurse Staffs, for the last many years, has been delivering service to the rural populace amidst irregular power supply. This PHC is the first health centre among others to have such solar power facility, added the Medical officer.

Dr. S. Bimolakumari, while addressing the gathering as chief guset, said, We approached the authority concerned for providing regular power supply to the health centre for many years as unavailability of regular power supply cripples the service of the medical staffs working here. Nobody paid any heed to our approach.

The health centre turned into 24x7 service right from April 18, 2012 and the staffs have been working with great effort day and night to satisfy the needs of the masses despite irregular power and many other inconveniences. Installation of solar power will solve the power problem now, added the CMO.
