Seminar on Drugs in North East and National Narcotics Policy in Guwahati
- Date: 5th to 7th December 2013 -
Institute for Narcotics Studies and Analysis (INSA), New Delhi ( http://www.narcoinsa.com/) in collaboration with Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati is organising a three day seminar on“Drugs in the North East: Searching for Truth and Solutions.”It will be held from the 5th to 7th December 2013 at Don Bosco Institute, Kharguli. The three- day seminar will include discussions on the extent and prevalence of all kinds of drug abuse in the region, illicit cultivation of opium, production and trafficking.
This conference aims to address issues which are vital to contain the problem and will discuss public perception alongside official views and responses to the problem.
While doing so, it will also take into account the developments taking place elsewhere in the world. Delegates from abroad will speak on experiences of some European and Latin American countries, which have endorsed a "four pillars" policy, namely prevention, therapy, harm reduction and policing. Their views in context of the New National Narcotics Policy of 2012 and the NDPS Act will be instructive.
By re-examining the national narcotics policy by involving all concerned it is hoped that a step further for effective drug policies will have been taken.
Policy makers, law enforcement officials, women’s/ student organisations, doctors, lawyers and jurists, social and health workers and recovering users are invited to participate. All sessions will be open to the public so that effective discussions on each idea can take place at the end of every session.
All those interested to participate can kindly send their expressions of interest along with a brief CV at
