INVITING ARTICLES FROM NORTH EASTERN PEOPLE
To commemorate the 16 years of indomitable commitment of the All India Tribal Students Association, Delhi (AITSA) to the noble cause of the tribal and North Eastern people, the Association is proposing to organized 3 day National Seminar-Cum-Workshop on "Holistic Improvement of Higher Education System in the Northeast" at Imphal, state capital of Manipur.
That, in view of the unnatural growth of migration of Northeastern students in the mainland cities like Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Mumbal, Chandigarh etc every year, it is imperative to seriously thought about improving the present higher education system in the Northeast India. While appreciating migration for better education and employment opportunities, the Association feels that out of the thousands of migrant students, very very few students manage to sail through and the rest were languishing in the ocean of confusion thereby causing heavy financial loss to the family and society.
The Association approach all concern Scholars, Bureaucrats, Thinkers and Writers, Social Activist from northeastern region to kindly express their views and contribute their valuable suggestion(s) on the topic "Holistic Improvement of Higher Education System in the Northeast" on or before the 10th Sept. 2010. The article can be sent to our email: [email protected] or [email protected] or [email protected] .
We can also be contacted in telephone No; 011-27601795 or (0) 9871205247 or contact Mr Boipu Koireng, Coordinator, All India Tribal Students' Association, Manipur state Tel. No (0) 9863079537 (Imphal).
The selected articles will be compiled and distributes on the day of the seminar for a wider discussion and assessment. The suggestions adopted in the seminar will be sent to all the Northeastern state government for favour of implementation. The provisional topics to be discussed in the seminar are listed below and if anybody wants to give suggestion (s) on these topics, we can change or add your suggestion till the 10th Sept. 2010.
- Retrospection of Education System in the Northeast India.
- Comparative Studies of Higher Education System of the (Central) Mainland and the Northeastern Region.
- Status of Science and Modern subjects in the Northeastern Education System.
- Equity in Quality Education: Fundamental Right to Education: Reality or Myth in the Northeast.
- Impediments of Quality Education in the Northeast India
- Is Social Background a Hurdle for Achieving Excellence in Education?
- Why do Public Educational Institution lagging far behind Private Educational Institution in the Northeast?
- Proposition of common subject on the cultures and lives of the people of Northeastern India.
- Impact of large scale of migration of students from Northeast region.
- Role of Civil Societies in the improvement of Education system in the Northeast.
Speaking in a seminar organized by the All India Tribal Students Association at Shillong 2002, Prof C. Nunthara, Deptt. of Pol.Science NEHU opined "Ideally speaking, students should develop not only memory power, but the power of analysis, power of synthesis, power to comprehension, and mostly power of applying knowledge and these powers are not developed by the present system of education in the Northeast nor are they tested by the present system of examination."
The education system in the Northeast lean heavily on arts and social sciences, and deficient in science and technological studies, including vocational studies, management and other modern training courses. The conventional system of teaching with obsolete methods and syllabus push the student further behind the national average.
As a result, the impressive growth of literacy in the North Eastern region has not been able to translate into a higher employability and productivity which is a matter of serious concern.
In the year 2001, Indian Institute of Information Technology conducted an all India entrance examination for admission to B.Tech and around 1000 students from North East also competed along with the all India figure of 62,000 candidates from Guwahati centre. Amazingly, not a single candidate from the North East was selected for admission nor listed in the waiting list which amply reflected the educational standard of the N. East region.
Sincerely Yours
Mr Boipu Koireng
Coordinator, Manipur State
