Highlighting the objectives of the Science Awareness Mela, the Principal Investigator Dr. Raheijuddin Sheikh said that the practice of leaving science for the brighter lot became a tradition and thus the zeal and enthusiasm for scientific studies and exploration is very less among the minority and tribal communities.
To necessitate scientific knowledge and bring larger awareness about the importance of science and technology, minorities and tribal communities needs to be sensitized at massive scale by organizing events that will not only captivate their vision but also induced them to learning science.
Apart from the day to day lessons taught in the schools and colleges, it is necessary that students also experience and witness the working wonders of science starting from the basic level to the varied designs of science and its application. One of the main setbacks to the students in the remote areas is the unavailability of infrastructure, facilities and technologies required to enhance the learning methods.
The present science awareness mela exhibition intend to bring mass awareness and inculcate scientific interest and zeal amongst the upcoming tribal students, tribal women, tribal leaders and elders, to create a step forward to evolving tribal society into a scientifically and technologically efficient and capable society.
The mela could generate huge interest and awareness about the science and technology, its application and importance leading to behavioural change amongst the minorities and tribal communities in Manipur, North East India.
