Sangai fest ends in Manipur with governor's regret
Seven Sisters Post |Post Bureau | Imphal, Nov 30
Curtains on the ten-day long Sangai festival to showcase Manipur’s tourism potentials came down on Friday. In his concluding speech, governor Gurbachan Jagat noted with regret that the full potential of the festival was not reaped as some sections of the society not only stayed away but also advocated for others to skip the tourism extravaganza.
Noting the reduction in number of foreign participation in this edition of the festival, Jagat suggested that Manipur government must consider partnering with one of the ASEAN countries in every edition for added attraction. The governor also said there was a need to package the tourism more effectively and start working early for the next edition. “We must use the social media and other travel magazines to promote Manipur which has so much to offer.”
Manipur which gave the world its modern polo must think of declaring the inner Kangjeibung, the field on which the modern polo took birth, as a heritage site, he said.
