SHDDC eco-blockade lands Manipur to Rs. 184.23 cr loss

The ongoing economic blockade imposed by the Sardar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) since August 1 has completed its 69th day on Sunday breaking the longest economic blockade record set last year by the Naga based organisations.
The current economic blockade has inflicted Manipur a total loss of over Rs 184.23 crore as the state lost Rs 2.67 crore per day according to an estimate by the state Department of Economic and Statistics.
The 2010 blockade had inflicted a loss of about Rs 157.76 crore with an estimate lost of Rs 2.23 per day. Presently, the UNC is also imposing a counter blockade in protest against the bifurcation of Naga dominated Senapati district to form Sadar Hills district. The counter blockade commenced from August 20 and still going on.
