SHRI PUKHRAMBAM DHANAJIT SINGH : Akademi Award: Dance
Born in 1959, Shri Pukhrambam Dhanajit Singh of Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai, Imphal, is a noted performer and choreographer of Manipuri Dance.
An M A. in Sociology by educational qualification, he is also a double post-graduate in Lai-Haraoba Dance and Manipuri Raas from JNMDA, Imphal, an institute in which he is currently serving as a Guru in Lai-Haraoba Department.
A versatile artiste with enduring dedication, Shri Dhanajit also completed a choreography course under the supervision of eminent Guru Shri R K. Priyogopalsana, Both as an artiste and as a choreographer he has been able to master the intricacies, subtleties and nuances of Manipuri Dance thus winning accolades and praises from critics and audience.
While, as an artiste, he has participated in innumerable dance festivals and cultural events inside and outside the country, as a choreographer, he has composed several Classical Manipuri Solo Dance, ballet and dance drama productions, which have received wide appreciations.
Besides, a strong exponent of Manipuri Dance, he has also conducted demonstration-cum-workshops, participated in conferences served as consultant of many local cultural organisations and has also published a book entitled Manipur Raas Ki Lengdraba Itihas.
For his contributions, he was earlier honoured with Nongpok Ningthou Award by Panthoibi Cultural Research Centre, Imphal.
In recognition of his excellence and relentless efforts in promoting Manipuri Dance, Shri Pukhrambam Dhanajit Singh is honoured with Manipur State Kala Akademi Award.
