STOP DAMMING & VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS
Dear Sir/Madam,
The Burmese military government, together with the government of India, is planning to build a giant hydroelectric dam near Tamanthi on the Chindwin River in northwest Burma’s Sagaing Division.
If the construction of Tamanthi Dam goes ahead the flood reservoir will be almost 1,400 sq km, the size of Delhi, and will permanently displace over 45,000 people.
Over 2000 villagers from Leivomjang (Kuki village) and Tazone were forcefully relocated to a new site.
In order to protect and promote the livelihood and dignity of villagers, we are organizing a Peaceful Protest Rally Against Tamanthi Dam and Press Conference followed by launching of Booklet entitled, “Stop damming the Chindwin” which reveals the negative impacts of Tamanthi Dam for the villagers.
Date - 8th December 2011
Venue - Jantar Mantar, New Delhi
Time - 11:00 AM
Therefore, we request you to kindly send reporters/photographers to cover the event in your esteem newspaper/TV/Magazines/Websites etc in support of human rights and environmental disaster.
