Programme for Creating Future Media Leaders in Northeast India

In order to inspire the younger generations in the Northeast region to be future media leaders, the Department of Mass Communication, Assam Don Bosco University organised two media industry awareness programmes for the school and college students in Shillong on 19 September 2018.
The programme was conducted in association with Loreto Convent School and St. Dominic’s College, Shillong.
This programme is an initiative of the department to create mass awareness on the dynamics of media industry, emerging career opportunities in media industry and in order to promote future media leaders in the region.
The programme was conducted by Mr. Jaikishan SG, Assistant Professor and Trainer under Google News Initiative Mr. Monjib Mochahari, who also works as Assistant professor in Assam Don Bosco University.
While conducting the programme, Mr Monjib Mochahari said, “There is a huge pool of talents who may be groomed to be future media leaders in the Northeast India. We have no shortage of talents in the region, but lack of awareness on fast changing media industry is stopping the youth from excelling in media world. Through this little initiative we are trying to promote future media leadership in the Northeast region.”
Similarly, Mr. Jaikishan, SG said, “Media Education is crucial in the Northeast region. It will help in accelerating the phase of socioeconomic and cultural development of the region. It will also bridge the gap with neighbouring countries.”

As part of the initiative, the Department of Mass Communication will be conducting a series of media programmes in different schools, colleges, and institutes of higher learning on various topics such as media landscape in Northeast India, Journalism in Northeast India, digital media literacy, media ethics, media management, social media, digital storytelling, documentary filmmaking, wildlife photography, fake news etc across Northeast India in the coming months.
