Linux Manipur conducted the "IT Talent Search - 2007" at Don Bosco, Imphal. About 500 students from various districts of Manipur participated in the competition, with students ranging from the Class VIII standard to BE, MCA, M.Sc etc.
The competition was organized by a group of LINUX enthusiasts who are residing in and outside the state of Manipur. No fees were taken; forms were made available across all the districts of the state. There was no Chief Guest; some invitees and participating students were the VIPs.
The written test started at 10 AM and went on for one and half hour. From 12:30 PM onwards talks, on-the-spot quiz, seminars and visual shows on Linux and Free Software were presented. The lighting of the lamp before the starting of the event was done by students from various districts of the state. This was followed by prize distribution at the end of the event. Students and parents from far away districts stayed back till around 3:30 PM. The aim and objective for the existence of Linux Manipur were made known at the gathering. There was huge positive response from the students and parents alike. They expressed their desire to have this event conducted every year.
Prizes were distributed at the end of the day. Linux and Free software CDs and T-Shirts were distributed to every participant.
We believe that this was the first event of its kind in Manipur - a competition on Information Technology with free registration.
We are planning for bigger events of this kind - sharing knowledge and the need for sharing knowledge, in the years to come, create computer awareness in every districts of Manipur and in turn aiming to make every individuals self-reliant and independent, create job opportunities for the society. Linux Manipur would love to make Manipur - the IT hub of the North East empower by Free and Open Source Software. For all these, we need everyone's support in every step. We do look forward for MU, CEDTI, MIT, computer institutes and firms to come forward and help us in establishing a strong network of Linux Users Group.
