Post Graduate Diploma/Dual Degree in Community Media :: Applications invited for 2012-2013

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), School of Media and Cultural Studies (SMCS) announces a Post Graduate Diploma/Dual M.A. degree in Community Media.
The programme seeks to create a cadre of committed media professionals who have the knowledge,
perspectives and skills to work with communities and facilitate expression of their concerns through the
media. The students will be introduced to micro and macro level development issues and contemporary
mainstream media discourses of growth and development, with the goal of facilitating a critical
understanding of social, political and cultural processes of change.
Research, writing and radio and video production skills will be imparted to make the students proficient
in designing, initiating, monitoring and evaluating media programmes. The programme includes
relevant field-visit and internship opportunities to facilitate a practical understanding participatory
community media.
The programme will commence from October 2012 and will be delivered in modular form, in a
combination of contact and distance modes. The course will be spread over two semesters comprising
of six weeks in October-November 2012 and eight weeks in April-May, 2013.
Students must undertake a block field work internship for a duration of 8 weeks after the completion of
Semester II. Those who are already employed will be encouraged to carry out the fieldwork at their
own organisations.
The course is designed for
a. NGO functionaries/development workers who are working with organisations and initiatives with a community media focus or potential.
b. People working in the development sector who are interested in exploring the potential of media technologies in improving planning and implementation of development initiatives.
c. Any graduate who intends to take up a career with organisations engaged in community development.
Eligibility criteria for admission
a. Graduation in any subject.
b. Those working with community based organisations and initiatives or with relevant work experience preferred.
c. TISS alumni with a Master's degree in any discipline eligible for the award of a dual MA degree.
d. Reservations will apply as per the Government of India Rules.
Venue and fees
a. The course will be conducted at TISS Campus in Mumbai.
b. Fee for the course is approximately Rs 30,000 (Rupees Thirty Thousand only) for the one year programme.

Application forms will be available from July 16 to August 7, 2012.

Please note that while submitting the downloaded application form, the 'TISS Copy' of the fee challan must accompany it.
