SHRIMATI POINAPWI NGOUNILA
Akademi Award: Tribal Culture
Born in 1930 at Tumuyon Khullen Village, Senapati District, Shrimati Poinapwi Ngounila is a revered tribal folk singer.
Trained under popular Gurus such as Pow Hingkarang and Pei Hingpwi Reishila, she became an accomplished folk singer of her time.
She has performed on various occasions such as traditional festivals and marriage ceremonies. Few of her songs have also been aired on AIR, Imphal.
Besides being a revered folk singer, Smt. Ngounila is trained in tribal folk dance and is also adept in playing a mouth organ called "Nking".
Presently at an advanced age of 82 years, she is still active passing on the tradition of folk song and dance to the younger generation of her village.
In recognition of her contribution in the field of tribal culture, Shrimati Poinapwi Ngounila is conferred with the Manipur State Kala Akademi Award.
