People's Convention for a United Manipur People's Forum for Hills and Valley Peace and Reconciliation Dialogue
Date : June 11 2016
This is to share that due to ongoing conflict situation regarding the three bills on Manipur People's Protection Bill to save indigenous lands in Manipur, much misunderstanding have emerged resulting in great tensions in state where many fear if ethnic violence, genocidal in nature may erupt. The violence has reached Delhi too with many violent protest and worsened with social media carrying hate messages of various ethnic communities that may lead to a communal war like situation in Manipur. All we see is hate messages against one community or other, which cannot be the only truth. Some concerned citizens of both hills and valley of Manipur have come together as we feel that it is the need of the lead peace process to make the situation calmer for peace and reconciliation. For this we are holding an important meeting for a dialogue for Peace and Reconciliation on Saturday 11 June 2016, 9 am to 5 pm at Deputy Speaker's Hall, Constitution Club, Rafi Marg, New Delhi.
In May 2015, acceding to the demand of JCILPS, the Congress government in Manipur had last year passed three Bills to protect the indigenous people inhabiting the valley districts of the state. They were: The Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015, The Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2015 and The Manipur Shops and Establishments (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015. Manipur has been caught in a spiral of violence since passing of three bills. Agitators in Manipur cite the examples of Tripura and Sikkim to justify their fear of being swamped by outsiders.
Meeting is arranged by concerned citizens, humanitarians and aim is for all communities from Manipur who are living, working in Delhi NCR to come together and find common solutions for peace with regard to current concerns back home. Many prominent personalities keen to find positive solutions are expected to attend. The meet aims to evolve positive strategies and recommendations.
We would like to invite you to be a part of & witness this important and critical meeting and provide coverage to this critical event at such difficult times.
When: 11th June 2016, 9-5 pm
