Pact with Bangla must to deport foreigners
Assam Tribune | R Dutta Choudhury | Guwahati, Oct 4
The process of detection and deportation of foreigners from Assam will remain a farce till the relevant laws are changed and the Government of India comes into some kind of agreement with Bangladesh to make that country accept the Bangladeshi nationals sought to be pushed back.
Highly placed official sources told The Assam Tribune that the process of detection of foreigners itself is a lengthy process and at the end of the process, it is very difficult to push back the Bangladeshi nationals. According to records available, more than 2.67 lakh cases are pending before the Tribunals set up under the provisions of the Foreigners’ Act. So far, the Tribunals declared 42,338 persons as illegal migrants but only 2442 of them could be pushed back. Of course, since 1987, 27196 fresh infiltrators were pushed back.
