Nagas in Bangalore condemn Manipur Govt
- Naga Students Union Bangalore -
Bangalore, 10 May 2010
The Nagas in Bangalore are holding a peace rally and a candle light vigil on the 11th of May, 2010, from 03:00 PM to 07:00 PM. The rally will start from M.G Avenue to Vidhana Soudha and Raj Bhavan via Cubbon Park and then return to M.G. Avenue for a prayer service and a candle light vigil.
The Naga Students' Union, Bangalore, (NSUB) is organising the rally to condemn the barbaric attitude of the Manipur Government, whose armed forces killed two youths and left over 80 civilians injured at Mao Gate on 6th May. One of the youths killed was Mr. Neli Chakho, a bonafide member of NSUB who was studying at St.Joseph\'s Evening College, Bangalore.
The Government of Manipur has deployed a large number of its armed forces at Mao Gate, the town bordering Nagaland, and other surrounding areas to stop Mr. Th. Muivah, the leader of the Government of People's Republic of Nagalim (NSCN), from visiting his birth place in the state though the Ministry of Home Affairs had given him the permission. The presence of the armed forces has not only created fear among the public but also paralysed their everyday life.
The Nagas in Bangalore condemn in unequivocal terms the blatant use of excessive force by Manipur State armed forces stationed at Mao Gate against Naga civilians and appeal the Central Government to direct the state government to immediately withdraw all the armed forces and allow Mr. Th. Muivah to visit his birth place peacefully as directed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Nagas in Bangalore also demand a detailed investigation into the killing of the innocent lives and to provide appropriate compensation to all those injured. In this regard, the NSUB is submitting memorandums to the Prime Minister of India, The President of India, The Governor of Karnataka, The Home Minister and the Chief Minister of Manipur.

President, Naga Students Union Bangalore.
