Our Own
Manoj Pukhrambam *
Let all Kangleichas be made to hear
That we have our own Lords, indeed;
That 'Emoinu' is the Mother Goddess
Of all the Rice and Beans we eat.
Ibudhou Pakhangba is our Almighty;
This, we all should not forget.
The disaster of two centuries ago,
This, we should now regret.
Ekta, Duita, Teenta, Chaarita,
Is what we ought not to speak.
Ama, Ani, Ahum, Mari, Manga
Is where we should not go bleak.
Songs, we have of our own,
That we all should die for.
Kishore's and Lata's are not the only ones
Which we all should cry for.
Scripts, we have our own;
This made our forefathers learned.
Bengali script is the mere culprit
That made our own script burned.
'Ekla Cholo Re' and 'Vande Mataram'
Are not the patriotic songs we should sing.
'Paari Emom Samu Pangalbasa'
Can also make the entire Bells ring.
So on and so forth, shall I say
That we have our own history.
Let those be sang and told to our children
As a Lullaby and as a story.
To Freedom, To Freedom, To Freedom.
(Dedicated to the Meeteis residing in Assam, Tripura and Bangladesh )
