No:5/BJP-MP/PR-PM/10:
The political aspiration and democratic approach of BJP, Manipur Pradesh has been without giving reasons undemocratically put on hold on the historic and majestic visit of Smt. Pratibha Singh Patil, Her Excellency, the President of India to Manipur on 10th March 2011. Inapt handling of the management of Home Deptt., Govt. of Manipur to disallow the party leaders to meet the president is unconventional and a prejudicial step to a national political party alternative to the nation.
Taking reference, Shri L. Bashanta Sharma, Secretary, BJP Manipur Pradesh applied a request letter bearing No. 17/BJP-MP/NLU/09 dated the 5th March 2011 to the Chief Secretary, Manipur seeking permission for 6 BJP leaders to meet Her Excellency, the President of India to highlight the problems confronted by the people of the state of Manipur.
The Party office which is in short distance from the old secretariat is not informed till today, the 9th March, 2011 in response to the request letter. Now, it is obviously presumed that permission is not given. At least reasons for disallowing the Party leaders to meet the President should be intimated to the Party office. Similar instance was also taken places at the recent visit of Shri P. Chidambaram, Union Home Minister to Manipur. Irresponsibility and disrespect to the Party is condemnable.
We understand that how the President of India was so generous before her visit to Manipur that Her Excellency's office by sending an official letter which was published in local news papers instructed the state government not to take up any action to cause public inconveniences in connection with her visit to Manipur.
The approach of the Party is to highlight the longstanding problems of the ongoing threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur, withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Power Act 1958 and internationally known Sharmila's a decade old fast until death, cases of extra judicial killings, complex situation of law & order, existence of deep rooted corruption from the highest order, abnormal and unabated Price-rise, grievances of teaching and students community, serious issues of fishing community in Loktak Lake and problems of women community in Manipur and also to cordially urge Her Excellency, the President of India to issue necessary directives to solve the problems in the interest of the people of the state. The approach of the party is for the betterment of the society.
Why the Government is so scared in giving permission is not known. This is undemocratic and would be better not to repeat in future.
