Not in black and white : Truth in between :: Points for Govt, TNL to ponder
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: October 29 2016 -
The truth will lie somewhere in between. Obvious that no one is ready to talk in black and white but paint the whole thing with shades of grey.
In the process it is the people who get more and more confused, presenting the right situation for more and more conspiracy theories to do the round.
In the first place, if the Tangkhul Naga Long was really opposed to the proposed inauguration of the projects, particularly the Ukhrul district hospital on the ground that it was far from being completed, then the boycott call would have been more than enough.
Obviously the TNL will not be in a position to answer this, but how does one explain the series of bomb blasts as well as the open firing just as the chopper carrying the Chief Minister and his colleagues took off from the helipad at Ukhrul on October 24 ?
Why wasn’t the boycott centred on the incomplete projects ?
Remember the question of the incomplete projects, particularly the Ukhrul district hospital only came to the forefront after the October 24 incident and the firing drew widespread condemnations, save from the Naga social organisations.
On the other hand it is also a well known fact that the State Government is not exactly well known for completing projects on time and making things worse is the fact that it is wont to inaugurate projects much before its completion.
Remember the grandiose manner in which the ISBT and the City Convention Centre were inaugurated before the 2012 Assembly election by the then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and the AICC president Sonia Gandhi ?
Five years down the line and the ISBT is yet to start functioning as a bus terminus and in between The Sangai Express had to bring it out in full public view how the inaugurated ISBT had been turned into one big public toilet with human excreta strewn all over the place.
Unfortunate it is that the State Government is yet to learn any lesson from the past and the fiasco over the Ukhrul district hospital is there now for all to see.
As witnessed by a reporter of The Sangai Express not all the beds have been laid out in the hospital and power supply is yet to be installed on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the hospital.
The TNL had other claims, but claims are claims and cannot be said to be the Biblical truth.
The question now is why the TNL did not bring this up before the October 24 incident ?
Or is it a case of looking for ways to divert the attention of the people from what actually happened on October 24 ?
Why did not the TNL condemn the series of blasts as well as the firing at the helipad ?
Didn’t these senseless acts of violence dilute the boycott call of the TNL ?
After all any boycott call is a means of protesting against something but the firing and the series of bomb blasts robbed the sheen off the grievances of the TNL and the people of Ukhrul.
The Government too should realise that it can no longer afford to take the people for a ride with incomplete projects and for the TNL too it should know how to lodge its protest.
This is the bottom line.
