Northeast blips on Delhi air plans
The Telegraph | Pankaj Sarma / Sekhar Datta | Guwahati/Agartala, Jan. 23:
The Northeast is poised to witness a major development in civil aviation with the Centre according top priority to the sector. The issue of connectivity in the region is a matter of concern since the road and rail network is not present at many places owing to difficult terrain, which has resulted in a lot of dependence on air travel.
The Union minister will also supervise the progress of work related to the development of civil aviation facilities in the Northeast. "The minister will inaugurate a new hanger and airport operations control centre (AOCC) at the LGBI Airport in Guwahati on January 28," he said. He said the centre, which was set up at a cost of around Rs 200 crore, will enable information sharing across 10 airports instantly and provide passengers a seamless experience of improved check-in, boarding and other facilities.
