No ILP for any new North Eastern States : Centre
Assam Tribune | New Delhi, Aug 22
The Centre has no plans to accede to the demand for Inner Line Permit system in any new State in the North-east. The ILP is currently applicable in three North-Eastern States of Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Nagaland.
The ILP system under Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 is applicable only to the three North-Eastern States. Hence, the question of future of planning does not arise, said Minister of State for Home Affairs M Ramachandran in reply to a question by Kumar Deepak Das.
The Minister’s response is significant because Manipur Assembly has recently passed a resolution pleading for introduction of ILP in the State because of the apprehension that indigenous people faced the threat of being reduced to minority by migration of ‘outsiders’.
