Only one percent hardworking civil services aspirant, CAT aspirants who took good coaching get success and all others fail despite joining coaching and hard work. The simple fact is that coaching is not enough for success nowadays because almost everybody takes coaching (in the past, coaching alone seemed to be enough because only a few aspirants joined coaching).
You, perhaps, realize that toppers are not two times intelligent as others and that toppers don't study two times as many hours as others per day. You need to find various ways (tools and techniques), both of small and big, if possible unique and not yet common ways to gain "unfair advantage" and get ahead of others and win the race. Using more of your mind power is the missing link in our education system and that makes the difference between success and failure.
Knowingly and unknowingly, toppers discover how to use more mind power, which allows them to accomplish more than their classmates. A competition is like a race where only certain number of students gets success and remaining fail.
Teaching and learning occur in dynamic environments have five basic dimensions—confidence and independence, knowledge and understanding, skills and strategies, use of prior and emerging experience and critical reflection. It is found that five most important characteristic recruiters look for in a job candidates are – strong communication and inter personal skills, proven ability to perform, culturally fit within the organization, evidence of adoptability and quantitative knowledge and technical skills acquired in the subject / programme.
Public speaking is an important organ to develop strong communication and inter personal skills. However, millions of people take the fear of public speaking to their graves. They sacrifice happiness, maximum success in their careers or business, and ultimately their potential. If you fear public speaking, you are not alone. Forty one percent of 3000 people surveyed were more afraid of speaking before a group than of getting cancer. They were more afraid of it than flying, heights, financial challenges, darkness, bugs and even death.
There are five main reasons why people continue to live with the fear of public speaking.
1. They are ashamed.
2. They feel better avoiding it.
3. They believe they are alone.
4. They believe there are no cure and
5. They listen to questionable advice.
If you can conquer the fear of public speaking you have e100% positive you can do it too. True courage is not shown by the person who plows ahead and does something without fear. It is demonstrated by the person who is scared to death to do something but who does it anyway. While seeking the truth about how to conquer the fear of public speaking, but only getting the half truth. Half of it was useful; half of it was practical; half of it was not. The challenge was to figure out which was which.
Half Truth 1:- Imagine a naked audience will give you self confidence—in your mind; the audience has been reduced to a shirtless, hopeless mass of embarrasses humanity-- wearing nothing more than smile. You, of course, are fully dressed and in command.
Half Truth 2:- It is not big deal, just do it—public speaking? What is the big deal? No one will hurt you, right? Just get up and do it. Just stand up there, move your mouth up and down, let the worth flow out, and do it simple!
Half Truth 3:- relaxation techniques will calm you. Half of the truth is that relaxation techniques can be an effective way to soothe you, whether you are talking to your local club, doing a training session for your colleagues or addressing a large convention. The other half truth is that relaxation techniques are totally in effective for the person who has avoided public speaking for years.
Half Truth 4:- If you know your subject, you won't be nervous. As in all the half truth, there is quite a bit of wisdom in this. For many people, being knowledgeable about a subject is the key to confidence.
By taking charger of your fears and declaring that your life will no longer be run by fear—you will see the stress and anxiety turn into positive, constructive, and useful energy. And when you commit to breaking the cycle of avoidance, you will take the simple most important step in overcoming the fear of public speaking. You will put yourself on an all out effort to achieve what may seem to be your most impossible dream says Steve Ozer, the author.
All of the symptoms of the fear of public speaking are simple natural and human responses to an uncomfortable situation. And one of the keys to overcoming the fear of public speaking is to let go of the fear of the symptoms—to stop attaching significance to them. In fact, there are 11 typical symptoms that can occur in those who fear public speaking. Symptoms are quivering voice, pounding heartbeat, red face, shaky hands, dribbling armpit, shaky knees, cotton mouth, nauseous stomach, sweaty palms, dizzy head and mind block.
Regardless of how we look to others, one of the keys to overcoming the fear of public speaking is to let go of the fear of the symptoms—to stop attaching significance to them. A pounding heart is a pounding heart, nothing more. A red face is a red face that is all. Letting go of the fear of the symptoms is a key part of overcoming your reluctance to speak. When you do, you will gain a sense of power and freedom that can not be described. You will love it.
You need to show your brain who is boss? So, what is the answer? It is brain training—a way to train your brain to respond differently to the prospect of public speaking. Show your brain that standing in front of a group is not a painful experience—that instantly transmitting the fight or fight response is an inappropriate reaction to a speaking situation. Speak because you have something valuable to share with the audience. It is not about you—it's about them. In short, put things in the proper perspective. Shows your brain who is boss! Brain training is not brain washing. It is simply a powerful, natural way to conquer the fear of public speaking by using your head.
Preparing for Action:-
1. Tell a story to your friend.
2. Tell a story to your friend's friend.
3. Speak in front of the empty room before any networking organization meets.
4. Make an announcement over the loud speaker at a local club.
5. Express your views in front of a local club meeting.
6. Remove your peer negative i.e.
A. Negative: "They are just wait for me to fail" Positive: "I know they want me to succeed"
B. Negative; "I am the only one terrified of public speaking" Positive: "Many people are afraid of public speaking"
C. Negative: "I will collapse if I have to face that group" Positive: "I will gain confidence by taking to that group"
No matter how much you understand about the origins of your fear, no matter how many opportunities you see before you, no matter how much you have internationalized the steps it will take to courage your fear forever. Prepared speeches are the bread and butter of meeting.
Speak with sincerity, vocal variety; inspire your audience, eyes contact with audience etc are the criteria of good presentation. You need to prove to yourself that your newfound comfort is not a fluke—that you can speak to groups of people you don't know with the self confidence you have been developing along the way. Speaking to groups of people you don't know is the final step in emerging the fear of public speaking.
Once you conquered the fear of public speaking, your life will be changed. When you have tackled what may be the greatest fear in your life and conquered it forever—the fear of public speaking—everything else is easy.
