Nagas fear talks failure, move PM
Seven Sisters Post | Post Bureau, Imphal (Dec 1)
The United Naga Council (UNC) has taken its demand for separate arrangement for Nagas in Manipur to the doorstep of the Prime Minister, close on the heels of Kukis seeking a ‘homeland’ that overlaps the Naga areas. The Kukis living in the hill areas, which are dominated by the Nagas, of Manipur have made their voice against the “separate arrangement” stronger and advanced their own theory of “homeland” besides the majority Meiteis already being against any disintegration of the state’s territory.
Meanwhile, the Kuki National Organisation, fearing loosing pockets of their land which are interlaced with the territory claimed by the Nagas as theirs, had made a counterclaim saying it was the Kukis who sacrificed their legitimate lands in the interest of the peaceful co-existence and communal harmony.
