Naga shawls manufactured in Amritsar!
Assam Tribune | Shillong, Oct 28
The warm Naga shawls, known for its hand-woven intricate patterns, is now being manufactured in wool factories of Amritsar, Punjab to meet the growing market demands. “The Naga shawls are being manufactured in Amritsar and these are flooding the North East market,” an entrepreneur dealing in woollen products said here during the 2nd Woollen Expo which concluded here recently.
These shawls are woven for use by the villagers, but of late are sold as handicraft products for anything between Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 by the villagers. But now, with factories producing these shawls, the price has come down substantially with supply increasing tremendously over the years.
