NPF Legislature Party meets with NEDA Convener
Kohima, 29th September 2020
Mr. T R Zeliang leader of the NPF Legislature Party Wing who is also the Convenor of the NPF Political Affairs Mission (PAM) on Monday called on the NEDA Convener Himanta Biswa Sarma in his Office Chamber and had valuable discussion on the Naga Political Issue.
TR Zeliang appreciated the idea of the Govt of India for roping him in to take active participation to resolve the Naga Issue and bring peace in the region. Sarma’s involvement in the peace process is a big boon to the Naga people and the Northeast region in general as he is someone who understands and knows the sentiments of the people in the region.
A permanent peace is what the Naga people desire and unlike the 16 Points Agreement and the Shillong Accord which were signed in 1960 & 1975 respectively, the negotiations this time spanning over 23 years and culminating with the signing of the Historic Framework Agreement in 2015 and the Agreed Positions in 2017 should bear a lasting peace in the region.
TR Zeliang had appraised him on the activities undertaken by the NPF Party under the banner of the newly constituted Political Affairs Mission (PAM), like, the meetings held with the two Naga Negotiating groups and also the various Apex Civil Organisations of Nagaland. Also brought it to his attention that the desire and opinion of the Naga people is that an early solution be achieved at the earliest.
The PAM expected that this time the solution should be Acceptable, Honourable & Inclusive so that Nagas along with the entire region of Northeast India will be able to contribute to the progress and development with peace in the region.
Further, the PAM members will be proceeding to Delhi to meet the Collective Leadership of the NSCN(IM) to discuss the Competency Clauses of the Agreement so that a clearer picture can be drawn as we cannot afford more assumptions which can mislead the people.
The NPF express the hope that the GOI should come out with a single Draft Accord so that all the stakeholders may take a call on such Draft Agreement and support the early solution in clear terms. both agreed that a common draft for one solution and one accord is necessary to be formulated and discussed amongst the stakeholders.
Sarma took serious note of the suggestions placed before him, the NPF hope that he will also in his capacity give his sincere effort for hammering out the resolution of the Naga political issue.
