NE is victim of historical accident : Lal Thanhawla
Seven Sisters Post | Aizawl (Nov 1):
“About six centuries back the Mullah, who accompanied Mirjumla in the invasion of Assam, described that region as ‘another land, another people’,” Lal Thanhawla said, while speaking at India Today’s chief ministers conclave in New Delhi on Thursday.
“Not many outside the region appreciate the fact that this region is a special area beset with problems peculiar to it, logistically disadvantaged, ethnic multiplicity with differing value systems, and is struggling to come out of the economic back waters,” he highlighted. He felt that policy makers and administrators do not seem to realise that the thumb-rule formulae as applied to the rest of the country do not always fit into the ethos and ground realities of the North Eastern region. “Unless a separate yard stick is adopted, most projects from the North East would appear unviable,” he said.
