NEC’s power diluted: secretary

The North Eastern Council (NEC), one of the important statutory bodies in India created by an Act of Parliament, now have “reduced functional autonomy.”
When asked, the NEC secretary Ram Muivah said, it is unclear why some of the powers of the Council have been diluted. “I cannot say why it was done,” he said. The Council’s objective is to oversee the developmental activities of the eight Northeastern States by funding, monitoring and implementing projects.
