God is to be greatly praised for having enabled us to see another Mothers' Day in our lives! Today, the 10th 0f May is celebrated round the globe as Mothers' Day and we all joined the world in celebrating this joyous day which can also be rightly called the celebration of celebrations.

It would be worth mentioning a little bit on the history of Mothers' Day. It didn't just came about like that but it has its history. This very idea of Mothers' Day originated from the depth of the heart of a young girl named Anna M. Jarvis in May of 1905. She made a vow that would change the face of calendars forever. She wanted to finish what her mother had started.

It would be nine year of hard work before president Wilson signed the official Mothers' Day resolution, making official the holiday that started as a way to honor mothers. Today as we celebrate Mother' Day, our special thanks goes to Anna Maria Reeves Jarvis for having founded this beautiful and heart-stirring day called Mothers' Day.

But for me, how I wish from the depth of my heart that mother should be celebrated everyday. Right from dawn till dusk, a mother is to be loved and praised for her unconditional love and sacrifice which words cannot befittingly express. She alone is capable of giving out love which is so pure without an alloy of greed, jealousy or selfishness. She can be rightly called an epitome of love and sacrifice.

Without a godly mother in the house, everything around seems to have receded in the darkness. Indeed, she is the lamp of the house. A virtuous mother leaves her legacy to her children. In Joel 1:3 we find an instruction like this: 'Tell it to your children and let your children tell it to their children, and their children to the next generation'.

Pops Paul VI says, "Every mother is like Moses. She does not enter the promise land. She prepares a world she will not see". How true! A loving mother celebrate small things. Small things are usually not noticed or left out, but she treasured and cherished even a little things her children do. Mothers' remember the first growth of her baby tooth, the first smile, she doesn't miss any small moments of her children. Such is the selfless love she shows to her offsprings. Isn't she deserves to be celebrated?

A godly mother helps her children to develop in many aspects. She instills the fear of the Lord in the initial stage. She is concern not only about his physical needs but also spiritual.

When we were small, she touched, talked, cooed and imitated our language and that stimulate the brain. Holding, soothing, and comforting, singing lullabies, reading/telling simple stories are all important in brain development.

It is not an exaggeration to say that nobody in the world can provide that rich experience except mothers. A Godly and wise mother is the architect of her child's life.

A godly mother prays for her children. "I prayed for this child and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord" I Sam 1:27,28.

Everyone experience storm and turmoil in life but as far as my knowledge is concerned, if we have a godly mother we need not fear because 'A good mother brings laughter in the midst of adversity Job 8:21 says 'He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy'.

A godly mother train up her child's spirit, character and teach obedience from the very start because she is well aware that if there are disobedient children at home there will be no happiness. She teaches her children contentment and respect, forgiveness, honesty, patience and humbleness. Moses was certainly one of the greatest leaders in Israel. We find in Number 12: 3.

"Moses was a very humble man,
more humble than anyone else
On the face of the earth"

But who taught him? It was his mother. The early training he received from his mother made him humble.

Let's take a very close look! Who can measure the influence of a godly mother/an ungodly mother. Jezebel was an ungodly mother. She married King Ahab and introduced immoral Bal worship to Israel. Jezebel's evil influence upon her daughter paid off.

Again look at the godly influence of Timothy. His faith came from his mother and grandmother II Tim 1:5

Mothers' are a source of love. They have the capacity to love. In Isaiah 49:15 it says, "can a mother forgets her baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne?

Yes, she can love to the utmost. As a wise mother, she can differentiate between pampered love and tough love. She knows that love is a learned response. The more you are ready to learn to love, the more you can love. The potential for growth in love is present in the mother.

Here is a short story of a mother:
Once there lived a poor mother and a son. They were happy and contented with the little things they had. But one day as the son had grown-up he fell in love with a girl. Unfortunately, the girl happened to be a very demanding person and she kept demanding one after another thing.

She promised to marry him only on one condition. She demanded the heart of the boy's mother. Although shocked in the beginning, consented to do what she wanted. Imagine the heart of the mother! The boy loved the girl so much to the point of killing his mother to present the heart to his sweetheart. He did as advised by the girl. As he walked through the forest on his way to the girl's house, he tripped over and fell down badly. The 'Heart' asked her son, are you OK son? Yes, that's the heart of the mother!

Mothers are the most prized gift God has given us.

Let's remember once again on this joyous day that Mothers' heart is a child's class room. Children learned the most valuable lessons of life from the mother.

In the Bible, there are mothers who grieve at the loss and mishaps of their children. There are mothers who fight for their children. There are mothers who take up sufferings for their children. There are mothers who honored by their children.

In the New Testament, Luke narrates the most prominent mothers of the scriptures, Mary and Elizabeth among many.
Let's praise God for such a loving and gentle creature called Mothers.
God did the right things by creating this beautiful people.
So a big salute to all the mothers on the face of the earth.

May your tribe increase!
