Mindless violence in Khuman Lampak
- Hueiyen Lanpao Editorial :: May 30 2011 -
THE TEMPORARY ADC office premises based in the Youth Centre Complex in the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex came under a bomb attack. Normally these perpetrations of violence are routinely assigned to X Y Z UG outfits. This particular incident however requires a second look.
A man comes in a car, a Maruti, 800 cc variety and inquires the chowkidar/caretaker if officials have arrived for duty. On being informed that the office would remain closed because of bandh restrictions the man suddenly turns stiff and says 'Oh', leaves behind his car, which incidentally is fitted with a powerful IED.
Less than a minute after he hurriedly strides off leaving his booby trapped car, he, it is presumed, set off a remote control device to explode the IED. The target of the bomb was reported to be the ADC Office premises itself.
Fate however so determined that the family of the caretaker of the Youth Centre felt the brunt of the bomber who chose to speak in monosyllables. Whether the bomber after having achieved his goal got a sound sleep or not is anybody's guess.
The summary execution of the blast raises a few pertinent questions. In this particular incident the loquacious bomber had uttered 'Oh', but what if less eloquent bombers or mute bombers go on the trail of destruction and violence.
Do we have to read tell tell sings of their evil intents from the way they look, or by the way they crook their fingers? Woe betide us if they are born cross eyed or are born with unnaturally crooked fingers.
We can then no longer judge what is what. Some may consider these possibilities as preposterous, but then let one and all settle down with the reality of Manipur, a place where anything undesirable could happen anytime.
Manipur is a land where everyone wishes to liberate all others, it does not matter whether the people who they wish to liberate have already been liberated. Ultimately the people begin to show unmistakable signs of liberation fatigue.
One cannot argue otherwise, liberating people is the fad of the hour. Ultimately people will have to carry back pack placards reading 'Stop liberating us, we have a living to make'.
And now back to that talkative bomber who had inadvertently blurted out 'Oh'. Who was he? Was he representing a malevolent body or was he just a maverick?
More importantly why did he choose to speak in monosyllabic interjections? He definitely invites comment.
One way to ascertain his true quality is of course to inform him that large numbers of those people he detest are camping in his house alongside his reluctant family.
If he then undergoes a verbal diarrhoea one is almost certain he is a sadistic propagator of mindless violence perpetrated either by himself or a body which has finally run out of words and masks.
