Meeting of Political Affairs Committee of NPCC
Nagaland, 14th October, 2020
The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the NPCC in its meeting held on 14th Oct has decided that NPCC will stay away from the Consultative Meeting called by State Govt on 15th Oct at Kohima to discuss on Naga political issue and ongoing peace talks between Naga National Political Organisations and Govt. of India.
PAC was unanimous in its opinion that convening this Consultative Meeting has become superfluous, because it has been made clear by the negotiating parties that talks have successfully concluded on 31st Oct 2019 and after that, the Interlocutor & Governor has had series of consultative meetings with stakeholders, namely the 14 Nagaland Tribe Hoho’s, NGBF, Civil Societies and Political Parties. Governor and Govt of India have already solution in their mind and we soon expect a final agreement to be signed.
NPCC has already presented the present position of negotiation and stakeholders view to High Powered Committee of AICC and Leaders of Congress Parliamentary Committees in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for support to the views expressed by stakeholders. We have been reassured that Congress will stand with stakeholders in Parliament as and when the occasion arises.
Since we are at the threshold of inking final agreement, we anticipate that the state Govt under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will step down in favour of solution which has been his commitment for the past seventeen years, and in which, he has never failed to remind the people of Nagaland while addressing every political or social gathering. We therefore urge Chief Minister Rio to uphold his commitment and avoid being an obstacle in paving way for post solution arrangement.
In view of the above situation, we once again reiterate our position to stay away from this ‘superfluous consultative meeting.’
