The Assam Don Bosco University is launching a new Masters degree program in Educational Leadership. Classes begin on Monday, 19 August at ADBU’s Azara Campus.
“Besides enhancing the effectiveness and impact of our educational and social outreach programs we need to underline the need for updated pedagogy, innovative approach and adaptive skills as well as effective and visionary management not only in schools and colleges but also in the caring and community development professions,” says ADBU Vice-Chancellor Salesian Father Dr Stephen Mavely giving the rationale in launching four MA programmes under its Institute of Social Sciences.
The four courses are : Masters in Social Work (2011), Masters in Psychological Counselling (2012), Masters in Educational Leadership (19 August 2013), and Masters in Child Rights and Development (19 August 2013).
These courses have been thoughtfully designed for principals, administrators, policy analysts and academic practitioners – currently on the job or aspiring to take up leadership positions in the academic world – to provide them with the skills and expertise to understand this reality, to gauge its demands, and to master these challenges,” says Dr Mavely.
The coordinator of the program Holy Cross Father Dr Paul Pudussery adds, “its masterful blend of theory and practice will assist students to develop the skills needed for coping with the complex demands of current educational policies and practices.”
Designed in a modular structure, the Educational Leadership Program offers three possibilities for those looking to enhance their skills as leaders and administrators of educational institutions:
a) Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership (2 semesters spread over an year);
b) Masters in Educational Leadership (4 semesters spread over two years); and
c) Masters in Educational Leadership – Executive (2 semesters on campus and two semesters of internship).
