Mapithel opens floodgates of graft
Seven Sisters Post | Yumnam Rupachandra | Imphal (Nov 11):
The controversy-dogged Mapithel mega dam project in Manipur has now run into another fiasco with the revelation that the number of villagers listed for compensation have been put way above the actual figures, raising serious concerns among affected villagers and anti-dam activists.
As per the number of households put up to the state government for discussion for compensations, it has been discovered that a single household has been bifurcated into 13 househ olds giving the village a record decadal growth of 30.07 per cent as against the overall district decadal growth of 14.63 % of Imphal East district under which the villages fall. The discovery comes amidst an allegation by villagers and anti-dam activists about government fudging household numbers.
