Manipur markets remain shut
Seven Sisters Post | Yumnam Rupachandra | Imphal (Dec 20):
Markets in the Greater Imphal area remained closed on Thursday to press Manipur legislators to take a resolution to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) System to check inflow of non-local migrants into the state.
At main Khwaramband Bazar, where three all the w omen’s markets – the Ima Keithels – are located, women vendors staged a sit-in protest to demand implementation of the ILP system. Similar protests were also staged in several other smaller markets in different markets like Kwakeithel, Lamlong, Singjamei etc.
