Manipur families want international norms on enforced disappearance ratified
Times of India | K Sarojkumar Sharma | TNN | Aug 31, 2012, 08.04AM IST
An organization formed by the families of persons who disappeared after they were picked up by security personnel has asked the Centre to ratify the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance (ICPAPED).
The organization called the Families of the Involuntarily Disappeared Association, Manipur (Fidam), came up with this demand so that the families could get some relief. As only a few weeks are left for India's UPR report to be finalized (September 20) at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, we urge the government to ratify the convention on the occasion of the International Day for the Disappeared on Thursday," said a statement signed by Fidam president Kangujam Ranjit and general secretary Md Baniyamin.
