Manipur MP bats for ILP system in state
Seven Sisters Post | Yumnam Rupachandra | Imphal, Nov 30
Manipur Inner constituency MP Dr Meina on Thursday drew the attention of the Parliament the urgent need to reintroduce the Inner Line Permit system in the state. Dr Meina from the ruling Congress raised the issue during the Zero Hour saying ILP is needed urgently as Manipur was facing an onslaught of influx of illegal migrants. The Lok Sabha MP reminded the House that the Manipur state assembly on July 13 this year passed a private member resolution for implementation of the ILP, which, he said, was in consonance with the demands of the people of the state.
The MP was among the delegation of Joint Committee on ILP which met the Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde recently to press for their demand for ILP in Manipur. Manipur with its miniscule population of just 2.7 million is being swamped by illegal immigrants whose numbers have gone up drastically in the past few years. Immigration into the state is taking from Bangladesh, Mynamar and Nepal.
