On behalf of the State Government, Chief Minister N Biren Singh along with Agriculture Minister V Hangkhanlian, Commissioner (Agriculture) M Joy and Director (Agriculture) Laltanpui received Krishi Karman Award 2017-18 from Prime Minister Narendra Modi at an award distribution function held at Government Pre-University College, Tumakuru, Karnataka today.
Manipur was selected for the award as the best-performing State in Overall Food-grain Production Category-III (production less than 1 million tone) for the year 2017-18 .
The award carries a trophy, a citation and an amount of Rs 5 crore.
In addition, two progressive farmers of the State namely, Yengkhom Bish-worjit Singh of Kakching Paji Leikai, Kakching district and Thingbaijam Johnny Chanu of Lamboikhul Awang Leikai, Imphal East district also received the Agriculture Minister's Krishi Karman Award for Progressive Farmers for highest production in rice and pulses during 2017-18 respectively.
The awards consist of Rs 2 lakh and a Prashashti Patra each. During the year 2017-18, the State achieved highest production of rice and pulses to the tune of 2,570 Kg/ha and 960 Kg/ha against the National average of 2,475 Kg/ha and 779 Kg/ha respectively.
The Prime Minister also presented Krishi Karman Awards to other selected progressive farmers and also released the 3rd instalment of PM Kisan for approximately 6 crore beneficiaries.
The award winners were selected by a committee headed by top officials of the Union Government on the basis of their assessment of performance regarding production outcomes, implementation of crop production programmes and innovative approaches adopted for effective service delivery.
Governors, Chief Ministers, Union Ministers and Agriculture Ministers of different States also attended the award distribution function.
