Manipur Governor launched UN Sustainable Development Goals
Manipur Governor launched UN Sustainable Development Goals initiative by IBSD
Manipur Governor Dr. Najma Akbarali Heptulla formally launched IBSD’s initiative
for Global Sustainable Development Summit “Towards United ations Sustainable
Goals” at Raj Bhawan, Imphal alongwith Prof. Dinabandhu Sahoo, Chairman of the Summit
and Director of IBSD.
The Summit will be held in NEDFi Convention Centre, Guwahati,
Assam during December 5-6, 2016. It is being organised by Institute of Bioresources and
Sustainable Development (IBSD), a National Institute of Department of Biotechnology,
Govt. of India, Imphal, Manipur in association with North East Development Foundation,
Guwahati. United Nations has fixed 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to be fulfilled
by the year 2030.
IBSD has taken initiative in this direction to work towards some of these
goals from the grass root levels to global level. Some of the major themes for deliberations
during the Summit are No Poverty (Goal no. 1), Climate Action (Goal No. 13), Life on Land
(Goal No. 15), Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (Goal No. 16) and Partnership for the
Goals (Goal No. 17).
Several renowned persons starting from academics, civil societies, industries, students
and NGOs will participate in the said Global Summit. The Summit is a very important for
India especially for the North East region of the country said Prof. Sahoo.
