MHJU condemn the barbaric act of the security personel
Imphal, 19th February 2014
In connection with the physical assault of Imphal Free Press Senior Reporter Mr Aribam Chaoba Sharma who is also a Standing Committee member of AMWJU, by the 1st IRB security personnel on February 10, 2014 near Minuthong, North Kangla Gate on his way back home from Imphal Free Press office at around 11.30 pm, the Manipur Hill Journalists’ Union (MHJU) condemn the barbaric act of the security personel to the strongest term and urged every right thinking individuals to join hands fighting against the assault of journalists in the soil of Manipur.
It is also highly questionable the delay action taken by the police, though the formal complaint regarding Sharma assault was lodged on the next day, the police registered FIR only on February 12, 2014 at 7.30 pm. Inspite of the long promised made by the state government to book and take appropriate actions against the culprit, no action has been taken so far.
We the MHJU express our earnest solidarity to the demands and stand points of All Manipur Working Journalist’s Union (AMWJU) while demanding appropriate punitive action against the accused IRB Havildar Md Majibur.
The Union further urge the concern authorities to take necessary actions at the earliest possible time.
