MHA issues directives to States against NE profiling

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has issued directives to the state governments of Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, NCT of Delhi, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Utter Pradesh against discrimination of people from the North East Region.
The ministry’s directives include ‘zero tolerance’ against perpetrator of crime on NE people; personal supervision by police commissioners and superintendents in cases as well as support facilities such as tool free help lines, among others, the Nagaland Governor’s office informed today.
The directives state ‘Zero Tolerance Policy’ for crime against the weaker sections in general and those from North Eastern States in particular; higher level of response to complaints from people of North Eastern States particularly women and personal supervision by DCPs/SPs over outreach programmes/contact with North Eastern States community leaders for holding meetings on regular quarterly basis for reporting to appropriate authority.
